The killing of a Houston family of four has left investigators scrambling for answers.
Four family members, including two young boys, were found inside their suburban Houston home shot in the head to death, according to Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, who spoke with the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Law enforcement officials were reportedly baffled by the curious killings, and haven't yet found any suspects or identified a motive for the murders.
The two sons were reportedly aged seven and nine, AP reported. The family's identities haven't been released, pending the investigation.
Employees who worked with the husband first alerted authorities, after the deceased didn't come to the office for a few days.
When police arrived at the family's home in Cypress last Thursday, the discovered the back door open, Garcia told AP.
Inside the house, authorities found "a horrific crime scene," Garcia said.
All four of the victims were in their bedrooms. Each had been shot in the head. There were no weapons found in the house, according to Felipe Rivera of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
"We have no other information that will speak to a motive, as to why this occurred," Garcia told AP. "From all indications, they were a quiet family, they were the average family...I am bothered by the loss of life of two children."
Although officers are still unsure of the weapon used in the killings, they did notice some signs of forced entry through a window. However, that fact hasn't yet been confirmed. It's also unclear whether the home invasion was a robbery.
"It is baffling," Rivera replied when asked about the case.
