Bags stuffed with human remains were found on Friday just outside of Detroit, Mich., according to reports by local news outlets.
According to CBS' station in St. Clair, Mich., trash bags filled with body parts were discovered just off of the I-94 freeway at the St. Clair exit.
Among the remains in the bag were a human head and torso, THV 11 reported. According to Sheriff Tom Donnellon, two witnesses saw the garbage bags thrown to the Fredmore Highway and Allenton Roads shoulder.
"One was a citizen, saw the garbage bags, looked inside, and then contacted us," Donnellon told THV 11. "The second was a citizen seeing someone dumping what they believed to be garbage."
The two citizens who first alerted police of the body parts said they were thrown into a nearby ditch from what looked like a mid-1990s GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer.
Michigan state police have been tasked with the investigation, THV 11 reported. Law enforcement officials must find and tag the abundance of body parts strewn over two rural roads.
Donnellon voiced his shock at the disturbing find during an interview with THV 11.
"It's so scary, I can't even put into words the concept of why, what kind of person could kill somebody to begin with, and then throw their body parts around," he said.
