The son of U.S. Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) was arrested on drug and trespassing charges on Wednesday, the New York Daily News reported.
Authorities detained Jedediah Lee Fox-Udall, 26, after receiving a call about a man breaking into cars in Eldorado Springs. He was then booked into Boulder County Jail on suspicion of drugs and four counts of trespassing.
According to Cmdr. Heidi Pretnup, the senator's son was found with drug paraphernalia and admitted to doing heroin within the last 48 hours.
Fox-Udall was released on $1,500 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on Feb. 20.
On Thursday, Sen. Udall and his wife issued a statement expressing their shock at the incident and support for their son, saying they "stand with him in his commitment to get the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family."
Udall was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008. He is running for re-election this year.
