The 67th annual Tony Award nominations are in and Broadway musical, "Kinky Boots" led the pack.
With an impressive 13 nominations under its belt, the musical looks to win big in the categories of best musical, best choreographer, and best score, according to The New York Times.
Singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper composed the score for "Kinky Boots" along with writer and performer, Harvey Fierstein. "Kinky Boots" is Lauper's first attempt as a Broadway composer, according to USA Today.
Rival musical "Matilda the Musical" landed notable numbers with 12 nominations to its name.
The nominations announcement came just after 8:30 a.m., with Tom Hanks' play "Lucky Guy" gaining a few nods. "Lucky Guy" edged in at six nominations, while "Golden Boy" led with eight; the most of any stage play. Acclaimed-revival "Pippin" nabbed 10 nods.
With the announcement of the nominees came a few musical snubs. Bette Midler's one-woman play, " I'll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers", left many critics in disbelief, according to USA Today.
Bette Midler was favored to be the best actress in a leading role. Al Pacino, Katie Holmes, Jessica Chastain, and Scarlett Johansson also felt the cold shoulder from this year's Tony Awards.
After a 30-year hiatus from Broadway, Cicely Tyson returns with a nomination for featured actress in the revival of "The Trip to Bountiful". The play also stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Vanessa L. Williams.
Other honorable mentions include Nathan Lane of "Nance" and Holland Taylor in "Ann", a tribute to the late, Ann Richards. Judith Light was also nominated for her role in "Assembled Parties".
The Tony Awards will air on Sunday, June 9 during a live ceremony.
