Naked Man Found Dead On Toilet At Social Club For Gay Men

Police say that a 45-year-old man was found dead Sunday morning, sitting on a toilet seat in a bathhouse on the Upper East Side. The man was found naked, the New York Daily News reported.

The man, whose identification was not immediately released, was found at the East Side Club bathhouse, a 24-hour facility that shares an address with Lips Restaurant. Drugs were also found when emergency responders arrived on the scene at around 2:35 a.m. His death appears to have been an overdose, police told the Daily News.

But Dexter Edwards, who works at the bathhouse's front desk, told the Daily News the man did not die from an overdose but from a heart attack.

The East Side Club bathhouse, which claims to be "New York's premier social relaxation club for gay and bisexual men," is a member-only club with an X-rated website. Located on East 56th Street, the bathhouse provides a "midnight express" special, which includes rooms for $10 from 12 p.m. until 8 a.m. during the week, according to the Daily News.

The bathhouse also provides higher-end rooms for $36 along with an extra charge of $10 per-hour.

"It's not a sex club," Edwards told the Daily News. "It's a social club for men. We have steam rooms, saunas and showers."

But nevertheless the bathhouse's location makes nearby residents nervous.

"I am shocked there is a bath house around the corner from me," Julius Weil, who lives around the corner form the bathhouse, told the Daily News. Weil said there is an elementary and high school right by the club.

"It's on the same block as a public school," "The should move away from the school."

When a Daily News reporter tried to enter the club, she was turned away because of her gender.

"We don't get complaints," Edwards told the reporter, with a divider between them, "We are quiet. We do everything within the law."

The man's identity was held back until his family has been notified in the Philippines, according to the Daily News.
