A woman in Queens are her two young children were discovered fatally stabbed in their apartment on Sunday, NBC News reported.
Police said Deisy Garcia, 21, and her two daughters, Daniela Mejia, 3, and Yaslin Mejia, 1, were found in their Jamaica home around 7:00 p.m. by relatives. All were pronounced dead at the scene.
During the initial investigation, officials recovered one knife from the scene. Garcia and her oldest daughter were stabbed in their torsos and the youngest child was stabbed in the chest.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that the father has been listed as a person of interest. Though authorities believe he was living in the apartment, they could not immediately reach him.
"He's disappeared some place, but we'll find him," Brown said.
The father's name has not been released by police and it is unclear if he was married to Garcia.
On Sunday night, the members of Garcia's church stood outside her apartment.
Sarai Hernandez, a member of the church's congregation, said Garcia and her daughters were from Guatemala. She also said Garcia danced at church and found it odd she and her family hadn't showed up to this Sunday's mass.
"She was always a happy person, in church she danced for everybody," Hernandez said.
Neighbors also remembered Garcia kindly, expressing their disbelief in her death.
"I'm in total shock at this moment," neighbor Michael Morales said.
There are no possible motives at the time and no arrests have been made.
