Octomom News: Nadya Suleman Accused of Lying on Welfare Applications, Authorities Say Mother of 14 Left Out $30,000 in Earnings

Nadya Suleman, better known by the moniker "Octomom," currently faces serious jail time for reportedly lying on her welfare application papers, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Suleman, who gained heavy media attention five years ago when she gave birth to eight children, allegedly omitted earnings of almost $30,000 when she applied for government assistance in 2013.

The 38-year-old Lancaster resident was charged with two counts of perjury by false application for aid, along with one count of aid by misrepresentation, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which spoke with the Times.

Suleman - the second woman in the United States to deliver octuplets - first filed for welfare to help pay for her 14 children in January and February 2013.

But after that, Suleman reportedly left out the rest of her earnings, which she collected from cameos, appearances and television spots, Deputy Dist. Atty. William Clark wrote in the complaint.

Suleman, who was on a government program when she gave birth to her children via in vitro fertilization, allegedly received $16,481 in welfare money from January to July of 2013. That included $9,814 from the CalFresh food program and $6,667 from the CalWorks financial aid program, the Times reported.

If she's found guilty, Suleman could receive up to five years in jail. Octomom is scheduled to make her appearance in court, Friday.
