Actor and Miss America Pageant host, Gary Collins died early this Sunday. The death was reportely due to natural causes in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was 74.
Collins was born in Venice, California, April 30, 1938. The famous host took over Miss America pageant in 1980's while he also hosted "Hour Magazine." Collins was also awarded daytime Emmy in 1983 for the show.
Collins was married to Biloxi-born actress and former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley for 44 years. The two separated in 201. Collins had three children, a daughter with Mobley, Mary Clancy Collins and had two children with his previous wife, Susan Peterson, Guy William and Melissa.
Collins began his career by serving the U.S. Army, where he was a radio and TV performer for the Armed Forces Network. He then starred in many series like "The Wackiest Ship in the Army" and "The Iron Horse" in the 1960s and the "The Sixth Sense" in the 1970s. He also made guest appearances in television shows, including "Perry Mason," "The Virginian," "Hawaii Five-O", "The Six Million Dollar Man," "The Love Boat," "Charlie's Angels" and "Friends."
Collins also had some law enforcements incidents in past. He was sentenced a 120 days "home detention" and four days in jail for drunken driving in the year 2008. He was also charged with misconduct for leaving a scene of accident in November 2010 and fined him $500. He was also charged for failing to pay his bill at Jazzeppi's Restaurant and Collins paid $500 two weeks later and he did not appear in court.
Collins tragic death news was reported by Huffington Post and Harrison County Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer said Collins dies just before 1 a.m. at a hospital in the Gulf Coast town. He was admitted Friday evening to Biloxi Regional Medical Center.
