New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is starting to banner the rumor mills nowadays. After being reportedly going to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Jay Cutler, new reports are now spreading that the New York Jets might steal him from the Saints.

The New York Jets badly needs a leader most especially in the quarterback spot. Jets starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick continue to struggle and bad news is he is under concussion protocol after he was hit by Cleveland Browns DB Briean Boddy-Calhoun during a game last Sunday. And this could be the perfect time for the Jets to make a move.

According to ESPN, now that the Jets lost Fitzpatrick to injury and his return is indefinite, a deal to acquire Brees from the Saints could be appropriate this time. Although the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins are also hoping to land Brees on their team, it seems that the New York Jets is the best fit for 37-year old QB Brees as per stated in the report.

The Jets are currently holding a 3-5 record after their win over the Browns but Fitzpatrick was the collateral damage in the end. Their offense is only averaging 18.8 points scored (28th) and total yards of 340.8 (22nd) and adding Brees could make this numbers up. Though the reports never say what could the Saints get back in return for Brees, a third-round pick could be a possible offer that they will get from the Jets.

In a report by Latin Post, the deal could also be the perfect opportunity for the Saints to solve their financial problems. Brees is said to be getting $30 million to Saints salary next year and trading him would save them money and free some cap space on their salary.

Aside from the salary issue, Brees will be an unrestricted free agent in 2017. So why not trade him to get something than lose him with nothing.

Though there's a possibility that the deal might not happen due to Brees' salary, the Saints and the Jets might reconstruct Brees contract in order to push through with the deal.
