CES 2014 Sony PlayStation Now: What We Know About the Game-Streaming Service So Far

Sony made a big announcement at its keynote address at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas regarding the PlayStation Now game-streaming service. While the keynote was not very specific as to how things will work, the company was showing off the PlayStation Now's capabilities at the show floor.

The PlayStation now promises to make it simple to play PlayStation One, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games. No longer will people need to leave the old console hardware around their houses in case they get the urge to play a classic game. PlayStation Now will allow people to stream these games.

According to CNET, which was present at the show floor to ask a Sony representative a few questions, here is what we know about the PlayStation Now so far.

  • Both rental and subscription plans will be available
  • PS4, PS3, Vita, 2014 Sony Bravia TVs will be supported initially, expanding to other platforms in the future
  • PS3 games will be supported at launch, with nothing to announce regarding older, back catalog (i.e. PS2, PS1) games yet
  • Games will stream at 720p resolution
  • Games can be saved in the cloud, letting you pick up your saved game on another device later
  • Multiplayer is supported between players using Playstation Now, as well as the ability to player against people that are playing using a disc
  • 5mbps broadband connection recommended

Disappointingly there is no official games list announced yet. However, a few more games have been added to the list of titles coming at launch confirmed by Sony. Previously we reported "The Last of Us" would make its way to the PlayStation Now streaming service. Joining it will be "God of War: Ascension," "Pupeteer" and "Beyond Two Souls." All of these games were being demoed at Sony's booth at CES in Vegas.
