Olympia Man Who Hitched Ride From Ferrari Driver Thrown Into High-Speed Chase With Cops

An Olympia man who hitched a ride from a stranger at a bar inadvertently became involved in a high-speed chase with cops.

Henry Griffin, 27, was at the Westside Tavern in Olympia Sunday night having a brew, local station WOKV reported. He then met Shaun Goodman, 42, who dangled the keys to his silver 2000 Ferrari in his direction, and asked if he needed a ride.

Once Griffin got into the vehicle, however, he told police that he instantly regretted his decision. Goodman reportedly peeled off at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour with law enforcement trailing behind. Griffin pleaded with the man, asking him to stop, but when Goodman wouldn't slow down, the 27-year-old was forced to wait until he could jump out of the vehicle.

Griffin then called 911.

"I got a ride from this guy and he's in a Ferrari," he told the operator. "And, um, he sped away from the cops and he took this sharp corner and I jumped out of the car and now I'm calling you guys because I'm scared."

"I just kept begging him: 'Please, please, I have a son,'" Griffin stated.

When Goodman finally crashed the vehicle, police officers managed to corner him. He exited the Ferrari at gunpoint, according to WOKV.

The 42-year-old was arrested and charged with felony DUI, unlawful imprisonment and felony eluding.

A Washington judge ruled that Goodman, who posted bail on Monday, will have to wear an ankle bracelet so law enforcement can keep tabs on his movements.

The prosecution reportedly said in court on Monday that Goodman has had 5 previous DUI convictions.
