Diablo III Release Date: Reaper of Souls Expansion Coming In March

The first expansion pack for the latest installment in Blizzard's Diablo series has been given a release date. "Diablo III: Reaper of Souls" for PC and Mac will launch on March 25, 2014 according to Blizzard Entertainment.

To go along with the announcement, the company has opened up digital pre-orders for the expansion on Battle.net, where it will be available for download prior to the launch day in March. This will help ensure players can get right into the game on March 25.

According to IGN, the digital version of the expansion is comes in two different forms. There is the Standard Edition for $39.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition for $59.99. The latter comes with certain features like exclusive transmogrification recipes for helms and weapons to help players distinguish themselves from others as well as a Spectral Hound minion, three extra character slots and a Treasure Goblin companion pet for use in World of Warcraft. In addition the Deluxe version comes with portraits and decals for use in StarCraft II. Basically, Blizzard is hoping to incentives users to spend the extra money and benefit their accounts across all of the Blizzard Entertainment Games.

Diablo enthisiasts who are looking for even more can opt to pick up the retail-exclusive Collector's Edition for $79.99. That version comes with everything included in the Digital Deluxe Edition in addition to a Mathael mouse pad, a hardback art book and two-disc behind-the-scenes Blu-ray/DVD set.

Reaper of Souls will introduce a variety of new content, including the Crusader class, a level cap of 70, an additional story Act, new enemies, the Mystic artisan and a sandbox-style Adventure mode. Just before the expansion's launch, an update for the game will be released that will shut down the infamous auction house and redo the game's looting system.
