Blizzard Entertainment, the development company behind the most popular MMORPG on the market, World of Warcraft, has taken a step toward bringing real world money transactions to its vastly expanding fantasy world. The first in-game store, allowing real-money purchases and transactions, opened up on Wednesday to all users who want to spend some money to have the best mounts and pets without having to dump in the hours of prep and in-game work.
The shopping interface, announced earlier this year, is designed to make using the store more convenient for users. Previously these items were available on the game's Battle.net Shop but that required an outside purchase form an account that had to be tied and delivered to your in-game avatar. Now you can simply visit a tangible location while logged into your character of choice and receive the item immediately to your inventory following your purchase. The Battle.net Shop is by no means obsolete now as you can get a couple of pets along with some plush Gryphon and Wyvern toys that the company offers in the store on its official site.
"You can now browse and purchase a bevy of mounts and pets* from directly within World of Warcraft through our newly added Shop interface. Just click the Shop icon on the menu bar once you've logged in to a character, and you'll be able to pick out a new friend to add to your collection and start your adventures together right away. By combining the best of cutting-edge goblin and gnomish technology, we've also made it possible for you to receive your new pal right in your inventory (or via mail if your inventory is full)," the blog post announcing the store reads.
In order to celebrate the launch of the new in-game store, Blizzard has announced that, for a limited time, a 50 percent discount sale on select mounts and pets will be offered.
"We want to make sure these cuddly creatures and loyal mounts find a good home, so for a limited time, you'll be able to purchase select pets and mounts friend for 50%** off the regular price either through the new in-game interface or via the web-based Battle.net Shop."
In other words, if you're a World of Warcraft fan looking for a new pet or mount, you'd be wise to make your purchase sooner rather than later to take advantage of this promotional sale.
