Legendary's highly anticipated Warcraft film, based on its popular fantasy game franchise, is beginning to find its cast, starting with Ben Foster and Dominic Cooper.
According to The Wrap, Foster (Lone Survivor) and Cooper (Need for Speed) are set to join Duncan Jones' high-budget fantasy adaptation of the first contact between the orcs and the humans from Blizzard's popular fantasy universe.
Foster was noted by many critics as being a standout role in The Long Survivor and many may remember Cooper from his role as Tony Stark's father, Howard. He can be seen in the upcoming Need for Speed.
The duo is joined by Travis Fimmel (Vikings) and Paula Patton (2 Guns) who are also set to star in the movie, which has been a product of anticipation for fans since rumors of its development first leaked online.
While the games have a very vast and expanding plot and history, the film version could end up being a reset of a lot of the key lore. The only thing known previously was Legendary's announcement was that it would depict the first contact between the human race and the orcs. Now, the Wrap reports that Blizzard Entertainment, the company that brought Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim to life this summer, is planning a film that will cover not only the first contact, but orcs, dragons, zombies, werewolves and elves in a medieval-like setting.
The story will be directed by Jones (Source Code) with a script written by Charles Leavitt based on the characters Lothar and Durotan from Warcraft 2. According to IGN, production of the film begins next month in Vancouver and is slated for a March 11, 2016 release.
