A gym teacher at a prestigious Manhattan prep school filed a lawsuit against his lesbian supervisor, claiming she fired him in a case of reversed discrimination.
Gregory Kenney, who lives with his wife and three kids on Long Island, was fired from his job at the Trinity School on Manhattan's Upper West Side in June 2012, the New York Post reported.
Kenney, 50, claims his lesbian supervisor, Pat Krieger, fired him because she did not agree with his "traditional family status," the lawsuit said. Kenney is seeking unspecified damages from the school.
Krieger became the school's athletic director in 2009. Since then, Kenney says she made him coach three sports, despite the fact his contract requires him to coach two teams, the Post reported.
Kenney was reportedly forced to work nights and weekends because of the increased workload. He then complained to Krieger, saying the extra work took time away from his family, the Post reported. When Kenney complained, Krieger allegedly reported him to the school's headmaster.
Krieger also allegedly showed preference for female teachers while giving Kenney a hard time.
"A single, female teacher faced no scrutiny when she refused to coach a third season," the lawsuit said, according to the Post.
The fired gym teacher said he's not he only one discriminated against by Krieger. Three other married coaches with children were also fired, the Post reported.
The lesbian director "routinely favored other single, younger females without children and discriminated against [him] because of his gender, sexual orientation, 'traditional family status' and age," the lawsuit said.
Kenney said he was an admired teacher at Trinity School, where tuition is $40,000. Krieger allegedly made up false rumors to get him fired, saying he left students unattended and illegally sublet his school-issued apartment, WSOC TV reported. A lesbian female teacher now has his job, the Post reported.
