The "Batman vs. Superman" production team is reportedly looking at Joaquin Phoenix for their potential villain.

Varity reports the "Walk the Line" actor is possibly up for the role of Lex Luthor.  Phoenix would join stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Amy Adams in the upcoming DC film.

"It's very early in the process and even if Warners offers Phoenix a role, it's not clear he would accept as the actor has steered clear of big-budget pics in the past few years, leaning towards movies with a more prestige feel," according to Variety's sources.

Other names that have been thrown in "Batman vs. Superman" rumor mills for villain roles are actors Jason Momoa, Idris Elba and Callan Mulvey.  However, Warner Bros. has not confirmed any casting news since they announced Wonder Woman was filled.

"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character," director Zack Snyder told Deadline.

Gadot has starred in numerous films, but is best known for her role of Gisele in the "Fast & Furious" franchise.

However, Amy Adams (Lois Lane) doesn't want Wonder Woman's addition to the "Man of Steel" franchise to create an awkward love triangle in the action film.

"I hope that I can be involved with a woman on screen where we're not in a love triangle," Adams told ComingSoon.net.  "That would be fun. Maybe where we team up together and we work as teammates instead of adversaries...Wouldn't it be nice if women weren't always just, like, cat-fighting and stuff?"

"Batman vs. Superman" is slated to hit theaters July 17, 2015.
