Two days after its scheduled maintenance commenced, the Yahoo Mail services are still down.

Web services maintenance usually last for just 24 hours before it goes back in track once again. However, that is not the case for Yahoo.

If reports on Twitter are to be assumed correct, Yahoo Mail has been down for 24 to 48 hours already. Users have been encountering notes about “scheduled maintenance” since days ago.

@YahooCare, Yahoo’s Customer Care account affirmed this partial outage yesterday afternoon by tweeting “We're aware that some of our users are unable to access Yahoo Mail. We are aiming to restore all access by 1:30pm PT. Apologies.”

The account also said that, for the meantime, users can still access their Yahoo Mail through their smartphone or tablet.

However, considering the increasing number of complaints tweeted by its users, it seems that the issue is still unresolved as promised.

One Yahoo user wrote, “Yahoo mail has been down for 48 hrs. Literally unable to even check your inbox period.”

Another one said, “mine was down all last week.”

Even though web services have their own issues, they are still considerate to update their users with what’s going on.

GMail, for instance, who had experienced delayed email arrivals in September, continuously updated its subscribers about the problems through its Apps status dashboard -- where regular updates of the current status of the problem were shown.

Yahoo, meanwhile, has taken its announcements in Twitter. In fact, the company has already posted a couple of tweets regarding the “scheduled maintenance.”

Yes, Yahoo Mail is a free electronic mail service that we can conveniently, but doesn’t mean that it’s not taking steps to make it better, maybe not as enhanced as Google Apps or Microsoft Exchange, but at least better than the initial version.
