The very first teaser trailer for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot launched on Tuesday giving people one of the first glimpses of what they can expect to see from the upcoming mega monster flick.
The film seems to want to lean heavily on the realism aspect of a live-action monster dinosaur takeover and show off the dread that ensues from human stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and David Strathairn. The monster is featured but clearly the producers don't want to show the monster in all his full-sized glory in the teaser trailer but they weren't shy about featuring his trademark earth-shattering roar.
While the trailer, featured below, looks pretty impressive so far, the lead up to the trailer was perhaps a bit more interesting. On Monday, Legendary and Warner Bros.' released a viral photo showing Nevada's 'Devil's Throat' sinkhole. The image contained several clues that led fans to a URL where they could get a glimpse of the new trailer.
"Nevada's 'Devil's Throat' sinkhole, thought to have formed in the past decade, is located in the remote wilds of the Mojave Desert - barren lands left scarred from atomic testing. Before being removed from this perimeter by security officers, one civilian leaked a smartphone image of what appears to be a secret quarantine zone established by paramilitary troops and scientific researchers," the accompanying text with the image reads via IGN. "Closer inspection reveals a URL that may contain more details on the mysterious M.U.T.O. group at the epicenter of this incident."
The 'classified' site leads people directly to a link holding the trailer, adding an extra level of depth to fans of the franchise who want that little extra feel of realism and conspiracy theory that comes with such a viral marketing campaign. J.J. Abrams did something similar with Cloverfield.
