Top 20 Most Popular Passwords Revealed By Adobe (LIST)

Among the million users of Adobe, "123456" turned out to be the most popular password, shows a detailed report on the Adobe systems which had been penetrated by attackers on Oct. 4.

The analysis shows that about 1.9 million people used the sequence, the BBC reported.

Security researchers have been able to find out more about users' password-creating habits through online copies of the data that was stolen during an attack on the company. According to the BBC, while many of the accounts were disused, abandoned or duplicates, information about more than 150 million accounts was stolen in total.

Adobe has now closed off all of the compromised accounts, saying it will only reopen them once passwords have been changed.

Since the attack, data that was exposed due to the breach has been circulating online. The sensitive information inspired Jeremi Gosney to go through it working out which password was most popular, the BBC reported.

The string of numbers "123456" topped the list with 1.9 million entries. The slightly extended sequence of "123456789" came second.

"Adobe123", "qwerty" and "password" were some other popular easy-to-guess passwords in the list.

Computer security researchers who study password-creating habits said lists of passwords and email addresses are an advantage to attackers not just because they can be used to get access to the systems they were supposed to secure, but also because many people choose to use the same password on various different websites which potentially help attackers with habitual clues.

Adobe's attack ended up affecting other website since many people use the same easy-to-guess passwords. Business Insider reported websites like Facebook and Evernote went through hacked passwords, found accounts using the hacked user/password combo and requested those people to change their passwords.
