Friday the 13th Franchise: Jason Gets a 13th Installment in the Franchise Coming 2015

Jason Voorhees, everyone's favorite (or least favorite depending on your perspective) hockey masked killer is coming back to the big screen. Paramount has set a release date for the next Friday the 13th movie, according to Exhibitor Relations via its Twitter account. Jason will emerge from Crystal Lake once again on March 13, 2015.

So far details on the film are scarce. There seems to be no writer or director attached to the film yet though ShockTillYouDrop notes that Platinum Dunes, who produced the 2009 remake, will again be back to produce this next installment, whatever it may be.

As of right now it is unclear if the storyline of the film will follow directly after the 2009 remake. It's possible that it could revert back to the original continuity but that's a bit unlikely. There have even been talks circulating for a few years that this next Friday the 13th might be shot as a found footage scenario. Thanks to the new deal struck with the property rights, it could go in almost any direction.

According to IGN, the 2009 remake was a commercial success, which makes it surprising that a sequel is just now materializing. One of the biggest hangups was the complicated rights issues involved with the project. New Line, which is now a part of Warner Bros. had control over the franchise ever since the ninth film. However, the decision to make the next installment a remake meant that Paramount, which owned the rights to the original, would need to be involved as a co-producer.

Including the remake and the cult-hit "Freddy vs. Jason," the next film will have the fun task of being the 13th installment in the Friday the 13th franchise. That should make the new movie a bit of an event for fans of the franchise. For now, all fans can do is wait to hear more about what style Jason will be brought back in this time.
