Although he has attained iconic status in a brief amount of time thanks to a popular portrayal in Robert Kirkman's original comics, fans of "The Walking Dead" TV series know little about the Big Bad Negan who will be showing up at the conclusion of season six. In the comics, Negan is THE villain of the story who plays a crucial role in some big moments. However, his origins have remained shrouded in mystery. Luckily, Kirkman wants to change all of that.

The comic writer and Image Comics are reportedly planning a partnership that will result in an official 48-page origin story for Negan, Cinema Blend reports. The comic book will be divided into 12 installations. Negan has become infamous to fans for his vulgar language, barb wire-wrapped bat Lucille and his terrifying cruelty. Now, we'll be able to see how he came to be this person.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan will portray the notorious villain on AMC's "The Walking Dead" and hopefully the show will provide some insights into who Negan was before he became the sadistic leader of The Saviors. The show has never felt beholden to the source material and has, in fact, made several major changes along the way. Hopefully, one more change will be further insights into Negan's character. This will make him a more significant antagonist for Rick Grimes and his merry band of zombie slayers.

Then again, we've seen popular takes on villains in recent mainstream media that did not include any sort of backstory. Heath Ledger's Joker just kind of appeared and stole all of our attention without ever explaining who he was or where he came from. That's a tough comparison to live up to if "The Walking Dead" does not feel the need to devote the requisite screen time to exploring Negan's past.

We'll find out either way as "The Walking Dead" airs every Sunday on AMC at 9 pm ET.
