Get ready “Delena” fans—the honeymoon period is over. And before you “Stelena” fans get all excited, things aren’t going to get better for you guys either.
In a recent interview with TVLine, Ian Somerhalder (Damon), Paul Wesley (Stefan), and Nina Dobrev (Elena) explained why the relationships are going to look pretty bleak as the season progresses.
Tessa’s (Janina Gavankar) explanation of the doppelganger situation—the one that says all versions of the doppelgangers are destined to be together and Damon has no chance—sort of hinted that Damon and Stefan may go back to fighting over Elena. However, Wesley says that really isn’t the case.
“[Maybe] a little bit, but not really… That triangle is, to be honest, a bit on the backburner right now,” he told TVLine. He also adds even though Stefan has his memories back, it may not matter. He said the Stelena love has “dissipated.”
However, Tessa’s explanation is still the major issue.
“It’s the elephant in the room,” said Dobrev. “When you’re in a relationship and there’s an ex-boyfriend around, the significant other is always like, ‘Hmm, I wonder…’ There’s always that insecurity.
“They might say that it’s OK, but it’s in the back of their mind. It’s the same thing with Elena and Damon. He’s pretending to be OK with it, but he can’t unthink and unknow what he heard and what he knows now.”
Dobrev also tells TVLine what she told EOnline recently—Katherine (also played by Dobrev) loves one of the brothers and viewers are going to eventually find out which one.
During the interview Somerhalder seemingly reminds fans worried about the relationship issues that the ‘ships usually don’t last very long—and for good reason.
“Relationships are hard in life. Relationships are really hard in Mystic Falls,” adds Ian Somerhalder. “If you don’t have conflict, you have no drama; and if you have no drama, you have no TV show. So relationships don’t last that long in Mystic Falls, unless, clearly, you’re a freakin’ doppelganger and the universe draws you two together.”
According to the preview for Thursday’s episode, things are going to get interesting now that Amara (also played by Dobrev) is in the picture. For example Bonnie (Kat Graham), yes dead Bonnie, is able to touch Amara. Maybe this has something to do with Amara being the anchor to the other side? Can Damon and the gang use Amara to bring Bonnie back? You can check out the preview below.
