Facebook Hints at Android Related Announcement at Its April 4 Event

Facebook sent invites to the media for an event at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, to "Come See Our New Home On Android," to be held April 4, according to a news report in Tech Crunch.

After years of speculations involving Facebook designing a phone, these rumors may soon turn into reality. The social networking giant may be planning to step into the phone business or all of this might just be rumors after all. According to Tech Crunch, sources revealed that Facebook has been working with HTC to design the hardware for the new Smartphone that runs on the latest version of Android and built in with Facebook's core functionality.

Rumors are that the project is named "Facebook Home," and its trademark is based on all Facebook apps including news feeds and other apps placed on the home screen.

According to 9to5google, Facebook and HTC have been working on a marketing campaign ad for a few weeks now. Sources aware of the development described that the Facebook/ HTC phone ad is not focused much on the hardware or the software of the phone. The Facebook app, which has been designed for a wide range of iOS and Android devices, is making its way through by providing something "more than just an app".

This is not the first time Facebook has joined hands with HTC. Both the companies had worked together in developing two of HTC devices- Salsa and ChaCha- which had dedicated keys to directly access the social networking site and update status or photos. These two models did not do well in business.

Facebook has not revealed any news about the event next week, but Tech Crunch said if it is not the Smartphone then it is likely that a modified Facebook operating system on Android devices may be announced.

Earlier this month, Unwired View revealed few specifications of the phone which is likely to compete with the trending Smartphones in the market. The processor will have the latest 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

The camera is likely to have 5 megapixels on the rear end of the phone and 1.6 megapixels on the front. The details further confirmed that the handset will boast a 4.3 inches 720p HD display and as 9to5google claims that the device is like to bear a resemblance to the Apple iPhone 5 with a center Home Button at the bottom of the screen.
