Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear smartwatch several weeks ago and tech journalists have been analyzing the device and recommending that people hold off on purchasing the already expensive wearable wrist accessory. However, despite the reservations of the tech community, Oprah wasn't deterred from putting the Galaxy Gear smartwatch on her coveted list of her "Favorite Things."
As Mashable reports, the Galaxy Gear has a lot of potential, promising synced apps and phone calls going directly to your wrist, cutting the number of times you have to pull your smartphone out of your pocket down significantly. However, the smartwatch is not exactly where it needs to be in order for it to measure up to its expensive $299 price tag.
Many have complained about an uncomfortable band, charging difficulties and issues with the built-in notifications system. Samsung has even had to come out and cop to the fact that it is working to fix the model and is even going as far as to recruit and work with new talent in order to do so. None of this is to say that the South Korean tech giant has created an inferior product, but many would argue that it's simply not ready to be in anyone's Christmas stocking this year.
This however, has not stopped Oprah from giving the device her blessing as one of the items you should consider buying your loved one this holiday season.
"At last, a polite way to check calls, texts, and emails when you're in a meeting," the former talk-show host said in her "Oprah's Favorite Things 2013" list. "This Samsung Galaxy Gear watch will discreetly notify you of incoming messages as long as it's within a five-foot radius of your Galaxy Note 3 smartphone. And everyone will think you're just looking at the time."
