Texas Man Arrested After Shooting Spree, 3 Women And 2 Men Shot To Death

Five people were killed during a string of killings that began Monday in Terrell, Texas, and ended in the capture of Chris Brownlow, on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The 36-year-old has been arrested for the five murders that occurred in different locations all over the town of Terell, a rural town with about 16,000 people and 30 miles from Dallas, according to Reuters.

Brownlows' first victim was found shot in the head inside her house on Monday afternoon. Shortly after police discovered the first victim, there were reports of Brownlow's house being on fire down the street, Reuters reported. The second victim was found shot to death inside the house after the flames were put out.

Two more bodies were found on Monday night inside another Terrell home, where the suspect allegedly shot a man a woman to death, leaving a three-year-old alive in his bed, Reuters reported.

Brownlow was detained after shooting his last victim, a male clerk, inside a convenience store when he ran outside and was spotted by an off-duty cop before driving away in a stolen car, the Associated Press reported. Brownlow was found hiding near a creek in some woods near the store after wrecking the car.

Terrell Police Chief Jody Lay did not name the victims or specified any charges against Brownlow. His motives and connections to those he's suspected of killing are currently unknown, the AP reported.

"We're all in a state of shock," Lay said, according to the AP. "You have a tendency to think, 'How can that happen here?' This is a country community, a rural community, people are real close. This is going to be, it's going to have a really big impact on us."

According to Reuters, Brownlow's shooting spree occurred in Kaufman County, Texas, the same county where District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia Woodward McLelland, as well as Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse were killed earlier this year.
