Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt has reportedly been fired after finishing the season 9-3 with a win over Georgia Tech Saturday 13-7, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach. The university made the move official shortly after noon on Sunday, terming the split a "resignation" for Richt.

Reports came out a couple weeks ago about Richt being likely coaching his last season for the Bulldogs, and after 15 seasons in Athens, Richt's tenure has reportedly come to an end. The Bulldogs finished tied for second place in the SEC East, but the university likely wanted to see more out of this year's team.

It's been a difficult season for Richt as a head coach, as he lost his star running back Nick Chubb early in the season with a torn PCL. The Bulldogs' three losses this season came from Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee. Richt had a coaching record of 145-51, and had a winning record all but one season as the Bulldogs head coach.

Richt will likely be heavily sought after by multiple programs across the country, as he is now one of the top-coaching candidates available. It's almost unbelievable to think about firing a head coach after a 9-3 season, but in the South Eastern Conference, competing for conference titles and national championships are the expectations. With Richt out, it will be interesting to see who the university brings in, as they will likely draw attention from big name coaches. Georgia is a dominant college football program and is looking get themselves back in the national conversation with a coaching change.
