AT&T To Offer $5 Day Pass For LTE Connectivity On All Tablets, See How To Use It

Have you ever regretted opting for the WiFi version of your tablet device rather than the LTE version? Perhaps you have a long commute for a vacation or business meeting and would like the use of your tablet but there's no WiFi present. If you're only the occasional LTE coverage user, AT&T now has a service for you.

CNET reports the Dallas-based telecommunications company introduced on Thursday the new $5 "day pass" system for consumers with tablets in need of connectivity.

Users can visit the AT&T site and follow the steps to set up a session or they can simply open the AT&T All Access app, which comes standard on all AT&T tablets. Click on the new customer icon and go through the set up process to purchase a day of LTE Coverage for your device.

The plan was originally introduced at the technology conference GigaOm Mobilize.

AT&T had previously sold data access to customers, however the cheapest option was $14.99 for 250 megabytes over the course of 30 days. The $5 pass provides the same amount of data for a single day. This means that streaming HD Movies is probably out of the question, but doing some reading online or browsing the web falls within this wheelhouse.

The company is hoping this will act as an alternative to paid WiFi hotspots offered by places like hotels, airports and trains. It's a nice price mesh as it is cheap enough to cover the occasional use but too expensive to do regularly as a replacement for a data plan.

According to CNET, while AT&T does offer LTE in 437 markets in the U.S., in the event that LTE is unavailable it will fall back to HSPA+.
