A blind man in Philadelphia was brutally assaulted on a street as witnesses in the area passed by and did nothing to intervene, CBS News reported.
According to surveillance footage released by police officers, at least three people within close distance of the attack took no initiative to assist the helpless man. Officials are hoping the video released will help identify the attacker.
The incident took place on Oct. 2 in an area of northwest Philadelphia. The blind victim, 33, appears to be walking alone on the street when he is approached by the assailant.
The suspect then begins hitting the blind man, pushes him to the ground, and continues to kick and stomp on him. Eventually he walks away and leaves the man on the ground.
Philly.com reported that the blind man was robbed during the incident although NBC10 said he was not. Police said he suffered injuries to his head and face.
There is no known motive for the attack.
Two men stood on the corner and watched as a third man crossing the street witnessed the attack as well. All three continued going about their business.
The attacker was described as a black male in his mid 20's, dressed in a tan colored baseball cap, tan shirt, khaki-colored pants, and had a black backpack on him.
Statistics published from the Philadelphia Police Department state that 4,315 aggravated assaults have happened in 2013 so far.
