Logitech Reportedly Working on an iPhone Game Controller

Amid speculations about iPhone game controllers, another @evleaks Twitter post reveals that Logitech is indeed making an iPhone game controller.

It has been weeks since rumors began about the upcoming game controllers designed Apple’s iPhones. @evleaks, once again, is the first to provide an initial peek of the “Made for iPhone” or MFi game controller from Logitech.

The new gamepad for the iPhone is somewhat similar to the PlayStation or the Super Nintendo control layout. With the iPhone lying in the middle, the added length may be more than two inches to give space for up, down, left and right buttons on the left hand; and the four ABXY face buttons on the right hand. On top would be the usual shoulder buttons for each side.

According to 9to5 Mac, Apple is planning to offer two types of gamepads: a pad where the iPhone can sit at the middle and the other a blue-tooth enabled controller. There are also extended versions with extra thumbsticks and additional shoulder buttons.

Aside from Logitech, MOGA was also confirmed to be an official partner for Apple's iOS7 controller support, and possibly also with its MFi program. But ClamCase is claimed to be making its own "GameCase," an iPhone gamepad with thumbstick function.

Although the Apple layout for its MFi controllers seems to be only a duplicate of existing layouts from other game consoles, this is not a deterring factor for both Apple and its users. In fact, this may be a positive characteristic allowing more gamers to appreciate the iPhone and its new gamepad. The comfort and ease at gaming won’t take much to get used to and the new controllers will actually push game makers to produce more apt games to make the most of gamepads.

This also creates another opportunity for Apple. iPhone has the potential to gain advantage from the now dwindling performance of game rental business. It can establish a strong foothold in the market by allow renting of games over the iTunes store.
