Producers of the popular television series "Army Wives" revealed that there will be no season 8 for the series, though fans will get one last opportunity to see their favorite characters on-screen in a two-hour special broadcast.
It is not unusual for television networks to abruptly end their television series after completing a few seasons. Such was the case with Lifetime Network's "Army Wives." The series finished its seventh season earlier this July and fans were looking forward to the eighth season on the show. However, they were left disappointed when the network announced Tuesday that there will be no eighth season for the show. Instead, fans would need to be content with a two hour special broadcast that will air earlier next year.
"There is no denying how special 'Army Wives' has been to both Lifetime and the television landscape. By taking on a very relevant and timely issue, it has brilliantly captured the challenges our military families endure and the bravery they and their loved ones display while serving our country," Lifetime Executive Vice President and General Manager Rob Sharenow said in a statement, according to LA Times.
According to a Deadline report, since two hours is too short to feature as a grand finale to the series' storyline, producers have decided to leave the storyline the way it ended in the seventh season and feature the two hour special as a discussion among the series' actors.
Featuring Wendy Davis (Joan Bruton) and Catherine Bell (Denise Sherwood), the series depicted the lives of men in the American army and the lives of their families too.
"[The show is] really about the families," Bell said, according to She Knows Entertainment. "No matter what the soldiers are doing, it's just about the life at home really and how we're coping, so I think the audience responds to that."
