Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko made sure that his arrival at every port of call will always be grand and, well, conspicuous. This is made possible as he recently upgraded his £190million superyacht for a new even more "super" model, which cost a staggering £260million. That is roughly $402 million - quite an amount for most people who find upgrading to a new phone already a big deal.

The new yacht, called White Pearl or Simply "A," is record-breaking because it is the world's largest ever sailing yacht. It is 142 meters long, with a mast that is equivalent to eight stories in height. The yacht also boasts a helipad, three swimming pools, at least seven rooms and a nightclub. It also has an underwater observation deck, according to The Telegraph. It was already spotted in the German port of Kiel Monday being towed ashore as it prepares to launch on its test voyage.

One of the most striking aspects of Melnichenko's superyacht - aside from its incredible size - is its strange design. While it can never stake any claim to grace or beauty due to its harsh angles, it does look positively modern and solid. It is a shiny hulk of steel punctuated by three tall masts, all in all resembling a sharpened Moby Dick. For hundreds of millions, however, one can be sure something pleasing must be found in the interiors.

"In many yachts you have small corridors, small rooms and complicated things. This project nearly has no corridors but rather large lofts, very pleasant gigantic rooms with many windows," Philippe Starck, one of the superyacht's designer, told Australian News Corp. It is powered by two diesel engines, including two electric motors that drive five-bladed adjustable pitch propellers, reported the Mail. It can sail at a maximum speed of 24 mph.
