EasyJet announced the launch of its first Scottish route from London Southend Airport to Edinburgh, Friday, according to the airline's latest press release.
EasyJet's first new route in 2013 follows three other routes the airlines commenced three months ago to Berlin, Newquay and Krakow. The first flight from Southend to Edinburgh will depart May 2, 2013. The airlines' unmatchable fares continue to trend as the fares to Edinburgh will be approximately $44 one way including taxes. The flights to the new route will be functional throughout the week except on Saturdays.
"We're thrilled to be announcing our first Scottish route from London Southend directly to the city of Edinburgh," Hugh Aitken, easyjet's UK Commercial Manager said in the press release. "We're making it extremely easy and affordable to visit the city or extend the journey further afield to other parts of the Lothians and Scotland by cutting the travel time to less than half compared to a train or car journey from the region and presenting our customers with great value."
Aitken also noted that the flight being functional throughout the week except on Saturdays will attract many customers.
"With flights departing six days a week, we're sure that the new service will be extremely popular with those heading to Edinburgh whether that's for business or pleasure," he said.
The launch of this new route along with the three other routes three months ago, brings the EasyJet routes to fifteen with less than 200 functional flights to and fro from the London Southend airport every week, said the report.
