Hackers gained accessed to personal information of as many as 2.4 million customers of the British company Carphone Warehouse in a recent data breach.

An estimated 90,000 credit card details were accessed, and all 2.4 million customers had their names, addresses, dates of births and other information hacked, according to the Telegraph.

"We are, of course, informing anyone that may have been affected, and have put in place additional security measures. We take the security of customer data extremely seriously, and we are very sorry that people have been affected by this attack on our systems," said Sebastian James, chief executive officer of Dixons Carphone, BBC reported.

Forensic experts from a firm specializing in cyber attacks are investigating the breach. Scotland Yard and the Information Commissioner's Office have also been notified, according to The Guardian.

The company has started contacting customers suspected of having already fallen victims of fraud, who were instructed to contact Action Fraud, the U.K.s national fraud and Internet crime reporting center.

Carphone also owns Curry and PC World since their $4 billion merger last year. The company said that Information for customers of Currys and PC World, along with the "vast majority" of Carphone Warehouse customer data, were in a separate system, so they have not been affected by the hack, according to International Business Times.
