Marvel's first Netflix series "Daredevil" quickly gained a following for being a gritty and realistic telling of a street-level superhero. If looks are to be believed, season two won't mess with that formula.

Entertainment Weekly has released the first few official stills of Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung) for "Daredevil's" sophomore campaign. The first image shows Daredevil (Charlie Cox) in uniform chained up and staring down the barrel of a gun held by Frank Castle. The second image shows a glamour shot of Elektra, and the other shots bring back Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll).

The femme fatale's image comes with some text that describes the character as a "lethal love interest" and Bernthal's Punisher as a "vigilante who has the same clean-up-the-streets mission as Murdock, except he uses guns instead of fisticuffs and simply murders every criminal he can find."

EW also reports that Bernthal's introduction will come in the opening scene of season two. The ideological differences between him and Daredevil will be the thematic foundation for this upcoming season.

"Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we're also going to force people - the way we force Matt - to second-guess themselves," co-showrunner Doug Petrie said. "Taking lethal justice into your own hands is in America in 2015 is tricky as s---. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you've got a gun and you're not the police you're going to incite strong feelings. We're stirring the pot and we're aware of the headlines where we live and we're trying to get people to think."

"Daredevil's" second season is expected to debut in spring of 2016 on Netflix.
