Old tires that are no longer safe to use on the road are usually dumped in the yard or at junk shops. Instead of letting them gather dust and moss, why not repurpose old tires to use for the house?

Listed below are some clever ideas for tire recycling.

1) As a hose caddy.

No need to cut or do anything else! Simply use the old tire to roll and coil the garden hose inside it. This way, you'll keep the hose from looking cluttered and also avoid damaging it.

2) As a dog bed frame.

Stuff an old tire with a pillow or a rounded pet bed. You can paint the tire to your preference, too.

3) As a planter.

Another tire recycling project suggests turning old tires into planters. Instead of buying pots, use old tires to decorate your front porch with plants and flowers. You will have to do some cutting and painting, per DIY instructions from Pink Hammers & Sippy Cups.

4) As a decorative piece in a child's room.

In the little girl's or boy's bedroom, the tire can be used as a wall rack to house a car collection. Or you can string some fabric in the tube, add a few pillows and make a perfect seater.

5) As a swing or sandbox.

Kids will love having more to do in the backyard, so you can install a tire swing or turn an old tire into a sandbox. Follow the instructions for the DIY sandbox project, which makes use of tractor tires, pool needle and old sheets, via I Heart Naptime.

6) As an ottoman.

Recycle an old tire as an ottoman, which you can place indoors or outdoors. It's a fun DIY project because you can incorporate whatever design you like. The basics you'll need for the ottoman are:

- old tire
- plywood
- wooden legs
- rope
- glue and screws
- construction adhesive
- drilling tool
