Marvel's upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" has a villain and the man rumored to be taking on the role is none other than Josh Brolin.

According to The Latino Review, Marvel has cast Brolin as Thanos, who first made his onscreen appearance at the end of first "The Avengers" film. Brolin will be voicing the character and is also rumored to appear in the upcoming "Avengers" film as well.

"Thanos is a member of The Eternals, a group of god-like beings with immense power, far beyond that of humans. Thanos is referred to as the 'Mad Titan' in the comics for attempting to wipe out the entire human race with his Infinity Gauntlet, capable of manipulating, time, space, reality and even the human soul," the Latino Review reports.

"We don't know how big Thanos' plan is, but we know from Thor: The Dark World that The Collector is collecting powerful mystical objects that most speculate will make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Infinity Gauntlet. If the Gauntlet is coming to screen, so is Thanos."

Variety has also confirmed their sources claim Brolin has landed the role. "Guardians of the Galaxy" is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 1. Brolin would join the star-studded cast of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and more.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" Director and Screenwriter James Gunn recently spoke to the Toronto Sun about film's hype and appeal.

"When you make The Avengers, there are a lot more people who have an idea of what the movie should be," Gunn said. "And with Guardians, it gives me a lot more freedom to reinvent them for this universe."

"People are going to be very surprised when they see the dramatic elements of this movie," Gunn added later on in the interview. "There are very sad elements to this movie that they really haven't gotten into with the rest of the Marvel films."
