Elvis Presley's only child, Lisa Marie Presley, died at 54. Lisa Marie began the week in a festive mood, first celebrating what would have been her father's 88th birthday with fans at Graceland and then tearfully applauding alongside her mother, Priscilla, as Austin Butler received a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of the King of Rock 'n' Roll in Baz Luhrmann's biopic "Elvis."

But on Thursday, she experienced an apparent cardiac arrest at her house in Calabasas, just north of Los Angeles, and was brought to a nearby hospital, USA Today reported.

Who is Lisa Marie Presley?

Although Presley was recognized from the moment she was born and a performer in her own right, having released three albums, she fully entered the pop culture whirlwind with her marriages to music superstar Michael Jackson and, subsequently, Elvis fan and actor Nicolas Cage.

These marriages were brief, but more extended partnerships produced four children, including her son Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide in 2020 and was buried at Graceland.

Lisa Marie Presley, whose hooded eyes and smoldering appearance were unmistakably evocative of Elvis, became renowned primarily as the custodian of his legacy and heiress to his inheritance.

Presley was there at Graceland four days before her death to assist fans in celebrating what would have been her father's 88th birthday. On the platform of the Golden Globes two nights ago, Butler commended her for her effort to preserve her father's memory.

Until her parents' divorce in 1973, Lisa Marie Presley grew up in the shadow of her father's stardom, with her name even gracing his plane. She was destined for a life in the public eye due to her resemblance to her father's appearance and her remarkable singing voice.

Despite being the sole child of a global superstar, Presley sometimes appeared confused by the attention she received. A blue record player played her first 45s, her footprints imprinted on a hospital birth record, and a recreation of Elvis Presley's nursery. "Everything is so individual and subjective," she remarked. However, it came out nicely.

When she divorced singer Danny Keough, the father of her children Riley and Benjamin, and married Jackson in 1994, she caused a stir in popular culture. Less than two years later, they separated, but Presley remained a loyal supporter of the celebrity during years of allegations of child abuse.

In 2002, she wed Cage, although their union lasted less than two years. She married guitarist Michael Lockwood in 2006; they divorced in 2021 and had 11-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper. If Presley found peace through the turbulence of being the sole child of Elvis, it was in Kent, a bucolic English neighborhood southeast of London, that captivated her attention and affection around a decade ago.

Presley told USA TODAY in 2012, before the release of her album "Storm & Grace," that she was ready to return to her life outside of the spotlight in England. Presley stated in the same interview that she felt emotionally and financially plundered by her closest confidants.

Included among Presley's afflictions was drug addiction. In 2019, in the preface to the book "The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain," she described her reliance on opioids.

Noting that she was "grateful to be alive," Presley stated that the pills provided to her after her twins' birth led to a full-fledged addiction. In 2020, Presley would be forced to confront a different type of suffering, as her 27-year-old son will commit suicide. In celebration of National Grief Awareness Day this past fall, Presley published an essay for People about the suffering her family has been through since the occurrence.

Lisa Marie Presley might have found the calm she sought throughout her life if she had been allowed to spend more time at the place she considered her true home.

Lisa Marie Presley Dies With $16 Million Debt

Lisa Marie Presley's death at the age of 54 has left unresolved legal disputes about her assets and doubts about how she lost the $100 million inheritance given to her by her father.

When she died, Lisa Marie Presley was still battling her fourth and final husband, Michael Lockwood. Lockwood, the father of her twin daughters Vivien and Finley, sought $40,000 a month in child support and insisted that she had more money than she claimed in court records.

Presley, in turn, stated that she was once $16 million in debt due to Barry Siegel's bad economic decisions. In 2018, she sued him for mismanagement of her fortune, as per Daily Mail.

At his death, Elvis was barely worth $5 million, but Priscilla transformed Graceland into a tourist attraction and founded Elvis Presley Enterprises, profiting from his reputation and large fan base. When Lisa Marie assumed leadership, the fund was valued at $100 million.

In 1995, she appointed Barry Siegel as the money manager. Siegel was the senior managing director of Provident Financial Management and a notable entertainment business manager. His clients were Al Pacino, Elijah Wood, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Mamet, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Siegel lost 85 percent of her part in Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2005, losing authority over her father's name and image rights. Siegel stated that the transaction "cleared out over $20 million in obligations incurred by Lisa and netted her over $40 million in cash and a multi-million dollar income stream."

Presley stated that she lost millions due to future investment in Core Entertainment, the insolvent business behind American Idol. He subsequently began liquidating Presley's assets to supplement her trust income. She further alleged that his business actions caused her to incur a credit card debt of $500,000.

Presley divorced her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, in 2016. During their divorce procedures, Presley claimed she owed $16 million, which Lockwood refuted. In 2018, she sued Siegel for mismanagement of her funds. Siegel and his business, Providence Financial Management, countersued, claiming that Presley's "out-of-control spending" was the cause of her financial situation.

At the time, the attorney for Barry Siegel, Leon Gladstone, stated, "It's evident that Lisa Marie is going through a tough moment in her life and is blaming people rather than accepting responsibility for her conduct."
