Warning: the following contains spoilers for USA Network's "Mr. Robot."

USA Network got the attention of devoted TV viewers last summer when they debuted the twisty, mind-bending hacker drama "Mr. Robot." The network also got the attention of the awards circuit, with "Mr. Robot" bringing home a statue for Best Drama at the Golden Globes. What people loved about the show was the dark and unique tone and the enthralling dynamic between star Rami Malek's Elliot Anderson and Christian Slater's mysterious Mr. Robot.

Fans can expect that relationship to continue to take center stage in season two, with even more emphasis being placed on their connection.

As we discovered during the show's freshman run, (Spoiler Alert) Slater's character is actually a phantom of Elliot's dead father conjured up by our protagonist's own mind. He isn't real. This revelation brings a whole new dimension to their interactions and will lay the groundwork for an interesting follow up later this year.

Creator and showrunner Sam Esmail noted that the fallout from this realization will be a focal point when the show returns.

"Now that Elliot is aware [that Mr. Robot isn't real], that has opened the door," Esmail said. "We're literally externalizing Elliot's mentality and his inner conflict, Mr. Robot being the other half of Elliot...What you've got to understand is that when Mr. Robot and Elliot go at it, he's really going at it with himself. What I can say is that they're communicating, but it's almost under duress."

Esmail will direct all 10 episodes of season two and plans to answer some major lingering questions while bringing up some important new ones that will reflect relevant real life issues of today.

The showrunner also confirmed that BD Wong's Whiterose character will be returning for season two. The actor served as one of the most interesting aspects of season one, portraying the transgender leader of the Dark Army with ties to E(vil) Corp. It is expected that he will play a crucial role in the overarching storyline going forward.

"Mr. Robot" is expected to return for a second season this summer.
