The Indians, who began their WT20 campaign with a massive loss against New Zealand, came back strongly with two back-to-back wins against arch-rival Pakistan and Bangladesh. India's in-form batsman Virat Kohli said that his team can beat Australia again. The Indians thrashed Australia by 3-0 at their homeground in a twenty20 series held in January 2016.

"It was very good to get that win (over Bangladesh). It is very difficult to be consistent in this formant and you need to come to terms with that. Sometimes you need character to get you over the line and that is why our spinners and Hardik (Pandya) were brilliant for us. This format requires you to be at the top of your focus while batting and fielding. So we need to stay in the moment and not get carried away," Kohli said.

Australia also won two of three league matches. They bounced back in the tournament with two consecutive wins against Pakistan and Bangladesh after losing their opening match against New Zealand.
