The Philadelphia Eagles have requested permission to interview former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin for their head-coaching position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Giants have reportedly granted the Eagles permission to speak with Coughlin, as he has one year remaining on his contract, and an interview is expected to happen on Monday.

It comes as a shock to Giants fans, as many thought that Coughlin may coach again, but not in the same division as the Giants the following season. Coughlin stepped down as the Giants head coach following another disappointing losing season in New York, but he could be exactly what the Eagles are looking for following the Chip Kelly era in Philadelphia.

Coughlin led the Giants to two Super Bowl wins with quarterback Eli Manning making clutch fourth quarter comeback victories in two games against the New England Patriots, and Philadelphia is clearly interested as they have never won a Super Bowl.

The Eagles will meet with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson this Sunday, and after an interview with Coughlin on Monday, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will travel to Houston for the NFL owners meetings, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. There is no certainty that the Eagles will make a push for Coughlin, but he could be the perfect candidate in Philadelphia, as he is completely different from Kelly, and that seems to be exactly what the Eagles are looking for.
