Earlier this week it was rumored that Marvel's upcoming film, "Ant-Man," had casting down to two major actors. Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were reportedly each on deck to take over the next super hero mask in Marvel's ever expanding cinematic universe.

Unfortunately for fans of the "Dark Knight Rises" and, more recently, "Don Jon" star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has publically come out to put these new rumors to rest.

"You know I'm very transparent when there is news in my career," the Don Jon star told the French edition of the Huffington Post. "I'm always the first to tell my fans if there's really something happening, so if you don't hear it from me, it's just people spouting out rumors."

As IGN points out, this isn't necessarily a flat-out denial that he's in talks on the project per se. It could still be possible for the actor to be in preliminary talks that neither he nor the people in charge of his casting would deep even rumor-worthy. However, he also told the French-language AlloCine that reports of him passing some Ant-Man preliminary tests were untrue.

What isn't clear is what affect this confession from Levitt will have on the rumor that Paul Rudd is in talks to play the super hero. Joseph Gordon Levitt made sense to join the Marvel Universe as he has already proven himself as a major player in the DC Universe in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises." Rudd, on the other hand mostly comes from a comedy background, which might or might not suit him well to join the Marvel cinematic universe. Ant-Man won't be a part of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron as that film will be releasing as the last installment of the company's Phase 2 initiative. The "Ant-Man" film will launch as the first of Phase 3, that will inevitably get the ball rolling on Avengers 3.
