Pop star Miley Cyrus slammed Nicki Minaj for the way she reacted when the hip hop artist was snubbed out of a Video of the Year nomination at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in an interview with the New York Times. She also teased viewers with what they can expect from her during her hosting gig at the awards ceremony on Sunday.

"What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind," Cyrus told the New York Times. "It's not very polite."

Minaj sent out a series of tweets complaining that MTV left her out of the Video of the Year category in favor of "women with very slim bodies," as previously reported by HNGN. Taylor Swift responded to Minaj's tweet and it resulted in a back-and-forth between the pop stars. Cyrus explained what she took away from the point Minaj tried to make.

"If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don't respect your statement because of the anger that came with it," the 22-year-old former Disney star said.  "And it's not anger like, 'Guys, I'm frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that's like, 'Eh, I didn't get my VMA.'"

Cyrus has been known to make waves in the industry herself, namely with her controversial performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs where she twerked on pop singer Robin Thicke and got a little inappropriate with a giant foam finger. But VMA producer Garrett English told Entertainment Weekly that they're giving Cyrus room to be her wild self during this year's ceremony, as previously reported by HNGN.

"They said, 'This is your party,' " Cyrus explained, and revealed that she enlisted the help of comedian Seth Rogen and his team to write her opening monologue. "What I'm trying to do is create my Instagram - which people love to think is so freaky - in real life," Cyrus said. "It's letting people into my world."

The MTV Video Music Awards will air this Sunday, Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
