Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj got involved in a heated exchange on Twitter, after the rapper voiced her frustration over her music video "Anaconda" not getting a nomination for Video of the Year at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

Many people assumed that Minaj had aimed her tweet at Swift, whose music video "Bad Blood" got a nomination from the event's most prestigious award. Minaj tweeted: "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."

Swift was quick to take notice of the tweet and it prompted her to respond with: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..."

Minaj then immediately replied and denied Swift's accusation, assuring that it was not about the singer. "Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13," wrote Minaj.

Swift responded: "If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on," but the singer has since deleted it.

Minaj's "Anaconda" earned nods for best female video and hip-hop video. She has also been nominated for best collaboration with Jessie J and Ariana Grande for the 2014 hit "Bang Bang."

Meanwhile, Swift leads the number of nominations with a total of nine. Her video, "Bad Blood," garnered nominations for best collaboration, direction, editing, visual effects, art direction and cinematography. Her other hit, "Blank Space," also gained nods for best female video and pop video, according to the Associated Press.

The 2015 VMAs will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on August 30 and will be hosted by Miley Cyrus.
