Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," discussed the growing DC Cinematic Universe in the latest edition of Empire Magazine and had some interesting things to say. For starters, he believes that a "Batman V Superman" film is significantly easier than making a standalone Batman film due to the immense popularity of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy. He also knows that there must be some separation between DC and Marvel's movie slate.

"If it was a Batman movie it would be a much more difficult proposition because of how good Chris' movies are," Snyder said. "We live in gratitude to those movies. Chris set a tone for the DC Universe, and separated us from Marvel in a great way. We are the legacy of those movies."

Deborah Snyder, Zack's wife and producing partner, also noted the varied feel of DC movies compared to Marvel. However, she doesn't give in to all of the fan-generated talk of a rivalry between the two studios.

"Right from the beginning it is different tonally from where those movies are," she said. "You know, DC is an ancient world in a lot of ways. I can see how people would want to make it this big, intense rivalry. Listen, they are so great. I loved 'Guardians of the Galaxy'...our films are a bit more serious. They deal with things that are a little darker. Things that place them in our world."

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016. It will be followed by David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" on Aug. 5 that year.
