Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."

If you were watching closely, you noticed Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne staring sadly at a Robin suit that had been defaced by Joker-like writing in the trailer for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." The words "HAHAHA Joke's On You, Batman" had been written over the suit, suggesting that Batman had lost a partner at some point in his crime fighting past, most likely at the hands of Jared Leto's Joker.

This would also seem to confirm rumors of a flashback scene in the film which shows the Boy Wonder losing his life.

Heroic Hollywood reports that the scene in question does in fact take place and that director Zack Snyder has already cast the role of young Robin. Snyder's son Eli, who was featured as young Leonidas in "300" and as young Rorschach in "Watchmen," will reportedly take up the mantle of Batman's sidekick. Eli is a star football player for his high school team and that athleticism will likely be needed to portray the high flying Robin character.

What is not known at the moment is which Robin Eli might be playing. Jason Todd, the second Robin in the comics, is the most obvious choice because he was brutally murdered by The Joker in the iconic 1988 story "A Death in the Family" before returning eventually as the Red Hood. However, previous set photos revealed that Batman visits a gravestone in "Dawn of Justice" with the name Dick Grayson on it. Grayson was the first Robin who went on to become Nightwing.

We'll learn the specifics of Robin's identity and his death when "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" debuts on March 25, 2016.
