"American Horror Story" has dropped hints in past seasons that the entire anthology is connected and that will become more evident when past characters start checking into the "Hotel" where season five takes place.

Creator Ryan Murphy and the cast teased that tidbit and revealed a few of the new characters' names during their joint panel with Murphy's other series, "Scream Queens," at the San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday.

Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Matt Bomer and Sarah Paulson represented the FX series. The cast members revealed their character names, but no details about their roles except they're all "bad boys and girls."

Bates will play Iris, Bassett is Ramona, Peters is Mr. March, Bomer is Donovan and Paulson will play the villainous Hypodermic Sally. "AHS: Hotel" may be the first season where Paulson's character actually dies after she survived the four previous installments.

As for the characters returning to "AHS," Murphy would only say that the connections between the seasons would make sense by the end of the series.

Perhaps the most surprising casting choice for this upcoming season was singer Lady Gaga. It turns out she reached out to Murphy, asking to play an evil role.

"Okay, you came to the right place," he told her, but don't look for her character to sing. Murphy is taking a break from any musical numbers following "AHS: Freak Show."

Gaga will join returning "AHS" players Bates, Bassett, Paulson, Peters, Denis O'Hare, Chloë Sevigny, Finn Wittrock, and Wes Bentley. Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson and Max Greenfield will make their debuts in "Hotel."

"American Horror Story: Hotel" will premiere this October on FX.
