Apple, which is seeing its global market share declining in the course of an intense rivalry with Samsung and the growing number of cheap Android devices, is said to debut its iPhone 5S in a special event on Sept. 10.
But, is Apple implementing a new strategy to enter the mid-range of the smartphone industry? That is the big question most analysts have in mind.
Apple has already gone after customers through offering its 1-year and 2-year old models with a $100 or $200 price-off when it released its latest smartphone iPhone 5. There has been rumors as well of the iPad maker creating a low-cost version of the iPhone which allegedly will have the same casing used by Samsung.
Usual kinds of processor enhancements and camera and the likelihood of a fingerprint sensor has been the center of most hearsay especially ever since Authentec was acquired by Apple last year.
After Apple’s announcement in its developer conference in June, logically, new iPhones will be using iOS 7 which they have been testing. The new software consists of a radical redesign of the look of the iPhone’s menus and icons generally, but the new features, such as better photo-organizing abilities, improved notifications, and added capabilities for developers are hugely incremental updates.
Though it will not be launched at the September 10 event, the next version of Mac OS X, called Mavericks, is anticipated to be formally introduced in the next few weeks.
However, a representative of Apple declined to comment about the details of the event or confirm the rumors of the Mavericks.
It has also been the talk of the town that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is also developing watch and television projects, although there is no confirmation that either projects are close to being released.
The event is also a critical new beginning for CEO Tim Cook to prove that he is still capable of leading the company. Board members, customers and investors have been urging Apple for a quicker pace of innovation.
