Brooklyn Nets Rumors: Alan Anderson Will Be Important of the Bench; Signed for Two Years

The Brooklyn Nets have signed guard Alan Anderson, according to the Associated Press.

Anderson’s agent Mark Bartelstein said Friday the former Toronto Raptor will receive a two year deal which will include a player option in the second year.

Anderson, 30, has average 8.6 points and shot 34.9 percent from behind the arc during his four year career.

Last season with the Raptors he average 10.7 points and shot 33 percent from the three.

The Nets bench is even deeper than it was before with the addition of Anderson.

He can add instant offense, spread the floor and bury the outside jumper.

Besides the Rockets, who acquired Dwight Howard, the Nets have been the best team this offseason as far as improving their roster It began with the addition of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. The former Celtics will put an All-Star or future Hall-of-Famer at every starting position (C Brook Lopez, PF Keving Garnett, SF Paul Pierce, SG Joe Johnson, PG Deron Willams.)

Jason Terry, also included in the Celtics trade, is not what he used to but can still be a leader on the bench and knock down a jump shot.

The Nets also picked up forward Andrei Kirilenko who has started for most of his career. (Kirilenko previously played on a Russian team owned by Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov.) Kirilenko is also able to hit the outside shot but adds shot blocking as well. He can play either the small forward or power forward position.

It seems Prokhorov is going for a “win now” approach. Pierce, 35, and Garnett, 37, are in the latter years of their career. Also, guard Joe Johnson, 32 , is coming to the end of his prime. The Nets currently have one of the best teams in the NBA on paper. However, if they are going to make a run at an NBA title—with the aging players on their roster—they have to do it as soon as possible.
