More than a year after the death of Whitney Houston, the singer's grave finally has a headstone, E! News reports. The teardrop-shaped monument is engraved with a lyric from Houston's famous song: "I Will always Love You."
The song, originally sung and written by Dolly Parton, has become a favorite among Houston fans. The headstone also included a heart-shaped engraving with her birth date, death date and the words "The Voice."
She was buried in a Westfield, N.J. cemetery right next to her father. Her father, John Russell Houston Jr., died in 2003.
Police said the singer was pronounced dead at the scene on Feb. 11, 2012 at a Beverly Hill's hotel. An autopsy of the 48-year-old singer said that Houston died from an accidental drowning with cocaine use and heart disease being a contributing factor.
Houston passed on the eve of the Grammys and was expected to attend Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party. According to Today.com, she attended the rehearsals for the party and was reportedly spotted giving vocal lessons to Brandy and Monica. The person who saw the singer at the rehearsal, who Today said wanted to remain anonymous, said the singer looked "disheveled, was sweating profusely and liquor and cigarettes could be smelled on her breath."
Her sudden death shocked not only the music industry but the entire world. The Grammys quickly rearranged the show to honor and remember Houston. Jennifer Hudson opened the touching tribute.
The day after Houston's passing Revered Al Sharpton told Today.com in a statement that he would call for a national prayer during a service at Second Baptist Church in Los Angeles.
"The morning of the Grammys, the world should pause and pray for the memory of a gifted songbird," he said in the statement.
According to reports, the Houston family waited to add a headstone because they were afraid her grave site would become a gathering site for fans.
