Antonio De La Rúa, Shakira’s Former Boyfriend Files A $100 Million Lawsuit Against Her

Antonio de la Rúa has filed a $100 million lawsuit against Shakira on Nov. 20 in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, for a contract breach, failing to pay the profits agreed upon while la Rúa was her business partner, reported in E! News.

According to one of the passage in the suit filed published in Billboard.com: "The combination of de la Rúa's business and marketing talents with Defendant's artistic talents, beauty and sex appeal succeeded in propelling the value of the partnership far beyond anything either had previously achieved or believed possible."

The partnership with Shakira included helping her with holding board positions, managing various companies and as per the suit the two had agreed that de la Rúa "would be entitled to a percentage of the profits of the Partnership in exchange for the contribution of his business and marketing knowledge, skills, and expertise."

The suit also said de la Rúa and Shakira met in 2000 in Argentina and later in 2004, Shakira had asked de la Rúa to be her business manager and control the business operations behind "Shakira brand." They ended their long-term relationship in 2010 but continued to be business partners.

After the break-up, Shakira wrote from France, as per a report in E! News: "They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners. However, since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship. Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now.

"We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives," she wrote.

Shakira had also got into a crisis with promoter Live Nation, which de la Rúa claims to have solved after several months and later in October 2011 the songstress ended her partnership with de la Rúa.

"From that day, Mebarak has adopted a strategy of trying to rewrite history, which includes denying the existence of a parternship, belittling de la Rúa's contributions to the Partnership, and mischaracterizing past events," reads the suit, according to E! News. "Perhaps having moved on in her personal life, Mebarak felt that remaining business partners with de la Rúa created difficulties in her new relationship. Whether that is true or not, Mebarak is not entitled to ignore the fact that, as a business partner, de la Rúa has a financial interest in the Partnership that exists entirely separate and apart from their former romantic relationship."

Shakira's lawyer had no comments regarding the suit so far and regarding Shakira, she is expecting her first child with soccer star Gerard Piqué.
